Drawing Buddha

These are some drawing exercises. It is interesting for all of us to compare our first Buddha with the last one we draw. Even though there are still many mistakes in these I can see clearly the process of learning and how much better the lines are flowing now. It is so important to be present in class to learn how to do it. Exercising at home is good but learning from Pema’s corrections, sharing with the class and looking at each other’s work are fundamental to the building of the many layers of this art.

Estos son algunos ejercicios de dibujo. Es interesante para todos comparar el primer Buda que dibujamos con el último. En estos ejemplos hay muchos errores, pero de todos modos puedo ver el proceso de aprendizaje y cuánto ha mejorado el movimiento de las líneas. La presencia en clase es imprescindible. Aunque convenga practicar en casa, lo más importante es aprender de las correcciones de Pema. Compartir en clase y observar el trabajo de los demás es también fundamental para ir comprendiendo este arte, capa por capa.

Tibetan Art Studio with Pema Rinzin

I started studying Tangka Painting with tibetan master Pema Rinzin in May 2008. Having been a student since kindergarten until now when I am finishing my PhD at New York University, this is the place where I was able to find the kindest yet most serious learning environment. This blog is to thank Pema for being my teacher and to share with everybody interested in this art my experience in the process of learning it. This has had the greatest effect in my life.

Hace más de un año que empecé a estudiar Tangka con el maestro tibetano Pema Rinzin. Habiendo sido estudiante durante tantos años, desde pre-kinder hasta ahora que me encuentro a punto de terminar mi Doctorado en la Universidad de Nueva York, puedo decir que éste es el lugar donde finalmente encontré el ambiente de aprendizaje más amable y serio a la vez. Este blog es en agradecimiento a Pema por enseñarme, y para compartir mi experiencia de aprendizaje con quienes estén interesados. Este arte ha tenido el efecto más grande en mi vida.
